I don’t watch reality TV. American Idol and Project Runway are the only reality TV shows I regularly watched in the past. I never, ever, ever thought I’d put myself in the position of being on a reality TV show. They traditionally make people look horrible and turn friends against each other. They manipulate the editing to create characters out of regular people. I am not on board with being a part of something like that.
A few months ago, a casting director, who I respect, posted on her blog that she was casting a reality TV show for actors/writers/directors/composers. I would have never touched the submit button if it wasn’t for Bonnie Gillespie casting this show. A month after I submitted myself, I received information from Bonnie and the producer letting me the details of the show and the next steps of how to continue the process.
Now, being the research nerd that I am, I dug deep into who this producer was. Adryenn Ashley is this powerhouse of an entrepreneur. I’m all about go getters and people who motivate and inspire, and she is exactly that. In receiving the details of the show, she seemed very hell-bent on emphasizing that the people on the show will not be depicted or grossly edited to make people look sh*tty, but instead will focus on the behind the scenes of movie making. This is something I can get on board with.
I’m currently in the Semi-Finals. Please feel free to comment and show your support on my show page HERE: http://thereeldeal.tv/jodi-skeris/ I’ve already passed through Round 1, where I had to create a 90 second personality video. You can watch that HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TquWO2LXiMU&noredirect=1
I’m now in Round 2, where I receive a monologue, record it, and post it on YouTube within a 2 hour time frame. I am participating in all 3 days of the callback. You can view my first callback day HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyXb3WLgdJk
If I make it through to the finals, I will need lots of vote from the audience (aka, anyone who has the internet). I’m not totally sure yet, but I think audience votes and judges’ votes determine who will make it to the show.
This whole process has had me pretty pumped about acting. I love acting and right now I’m doing so much of it. It’s helped me to refocus my goals and put more attention to my marketing tools. I am dead set at making my acting career happen. As happy as I am for all my colleagues making it to recurring roles on TV shows and feature films, it is my time. I am prepped and ready to blast. Let’s get going!
I’ve already met several new friends along this journey. Please feel free to support my old school buddies below who are also taking part of The Reel Deal show:
Ben Blair (Director)
Sean Michael Boozer (Actor)
Joy Regullano (Writer)
Deana Ricks (Actor)
Bonnie Kathleen Ryan (Actor/Director)
